BEYOND WORD PLAY – WRITERS AND ILLUSTRATORS 2007
During the Summer Term of 2007, children and young people from schools across Swansea worked with professional writers and illustrators to create their own illustrated stories and poems.
Writers Bob Beagrie and Andy Willoughby from Teesside and Michael Harvey from Cardiff worked in school with the young writers. A small group of pupils identified as being able and talented was selected from four of the schools to spend a further day with Bob and Andy at the Dylan Thomas Centre.
Illustrators Suzanne Carpenter and Keith Bayliss then worked with the children and young people using collage techniques to illustrate their stories and poems.
The examples of lively writing and vibrant illustration on show are just a fraction of the work created. However it demonstrates the wealth of young talent in Swansea schools and highlights the benefits of working with arts practitioners.
