Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Llwynderw - Artist in Residence

Naomi Leake has been appointed as the Artist in Residence for this project.

The aim of the project is to work with the four schools as well as the local community to inspire and enthuse them to become engaged with the new school through participation in various creative projects. These projects aim to inform and feed into the art projects across the four school campuses. Areas of interest include exploring and developing themes and schemes arising from the immediate environment and locale as well as much broader social themes. It is hoped that through the creative process and participation there will be the opportunity to produce and install collaborative artworks resulting from the projects.

" I worked across four different schools, LLangatwg, St Davids, Grange and the Primary education centre to create artworks for all the schools, made in collaboration with the children. Throughout this process the children were brought together and got to know each other through workshops in drawing, building structures, slate carving and film making.

The children sent video messages to and from each other with regard to their feelings about the building of a new welsh language school.

They learnt how to edit a film, interview techniques, how to use a professional camera, about lighting and sound.

The project culminated in a short film "Rumble in the Mumbles" that is a truly collaborative effort of the pupils of all four schools."
