What’s That Noise?

It’s not the noise of a car skidding on an icy road, its tyres screeching like fingernails scraping down a back board.

I wish it was the quiet voice of Claire when she talks to you.

Maybe it’s an extinction bringer.

It’s not the noise of a window smashing, as the splinters of glass fly around the room like gunfire through the house.

I wish it was the sound of raindrops trickling down my window.

Maybe it’s a lightning exploder.

It’s not the sound of my next door neighbour’s dog barking at a little fly, like a whirlwind on a winter’s day.

I wish it was the birds tweeting from the trees.

Maybe it’s the night killer.

It’s not the sound of a plane crashing, like the sea smashing the rocks on a rainy winter’s day.

I wish it was the sound of my hamster tapping his cage.

Maybe it’s a death strider.

Or a Sleep stealer – Claire
