Locws4 Schools In April and May 2009 Locws International stages the third city-wide arts event Locws International 4: Art Across the City, that sees International and UK-based artists create new temporary site-specific artworks in prominent locations across the city. The previous events Locws1 (2000), Locws2 (2002), Locws3 (2007) received national acclaim. Thanks to The Arts Council of Wales lottery funds secured by the Local Authority an exciting two-day Artist in Residence taster project linked to Locws International 4 is being offered to KS3/4 students during the Summer Term 2009.The residency will provide an opportunity for young people to have an experience of working with an artist, sharing the art of others and collecting ideas and information to inspire and develop their own work. Children from Penyrheol Primary, Penyrheol Comprehensive, Bishop Gore Comprehensive, Daniel James Community School and Tre Hafod Child and Family Clinic will be working with artist David Marchant during the Summer term, 2009.
The Josef Herman Award ‘09 This year children from five counties will take part in the Josef Herman Award for Schools 2009. The children will once again visit Ystradgynlais and will then work in school for two days with the artist. Nearly fifty Swansea schools applied to be the 2009 award school and the winning school, Gwyrosydd Primary was drawn out of the hat by Arts Development Officer, Robin Hall.

Out There – Foundation Phase Built Environment Project A training Day with Eileen Adams was held on the 26th June, 2008 at the Clydach Education Centre. This followed on from a successful teacher-led project in 2007/08. The course was well attended and was a mixture of theory and practical activities. Four teachers from the pevious year's course gave an input where they were able to share aspects of their practice. The teachers who attended were invited to create ‘Out There’ projects back at school with their own class. As before they were provided with a starter pack of materials and a series of after school meetings has support and monitored progress. Four teachers involved in last year’s project have secured funding to develop a resource for the National Grid for Learning based upon the work developed during the ‘Out There Project’. The work has begun and will be completed by June.

Residencies 2008 "No Ordinary Cupboard" - Children's Anthology Locws Schools There was a Locws Schools exhibition at the National Waterfront Museum from the 7th February to 8th March. The exhibition was opened on Wednesday 11th February and included drawings, photographs, sculptures and videos made by pupils from Ysgol Gyfun Bryntawe, Daniel James Community School and Parklands Primary in response to Locws artwork shown as part of last October’s Swansea Festival. It was opened by Carolyn Davies who spoke to an audience that included parents, young people, teachers, artists, press and representatives of the Arts Council Wales. A letter of appreciation was received from Claire Middleton from Daniel James Community School who commented that after being involved in the Locws projects several pupils have been encouraged to consider art college and careers in Art and Design and some have secured work experience with designers. There was also an extremely favourable response from YGG Bryntawe where all the pupils who took part are now taking Art and Design GCSE.
